The desalination plant consists of five MSF units with a maximum capacity of 63,644 m3/d (14 MIGD) each. These units are  the largest in the world.

The power and water master plan considers the developments in Abu Dhabi up to the year 2010. The area covered is the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The main drinking water source to be considered is seawater desalination. The master plan includes desalination projects with a total capacity of some 1,350,000 m3/d (300 MIGD). Report on the operation and maintenance of existing plants. Preparation of a rehabilitation programme for the existing plants in order to extend lifetime to 40 years.
